Favourite Kettlebell Workouts
I have a confession, Kettlebell workouts are my favourite method of developing total fitness, bar none. (A full list of workouts can be found at the bottom of this page.)
Before I explain why I regard kettlebell routines so highly, let's back track a moment.
I first discovered kettlebells purely by accident. At the time I was researching new cutting edge ideas for getting people fit in the convenience of their own homes, or outdoors and away from the sweaty, crowded and boring gym environment.
My criteria for selection was that whatever I found it needed to offer:
- Proven track record in getting outstanding results.
- Minimal size
- Great fun to use
- No Gimmicks
I first saw kettlebells being used while watching an episode of The Biggest Loser on Sky Tv. On the show the trainer had obese clients swing an odd cannon ball shaped weight between their legs and use a hip drive to propel the weight forwards, performed for high repetitions.
I had never seen anything like it and wondered if this was the tool I had been looking for. It turned out that the exercise I was watching being performed was the infamous kettlebell swing, regarded by many as THE most important kettlebell exercise there is.
I continued with my research on the internet and slowly began to realise that on paper at least, kettlebell workouts seemed to tick all of the boxes.
Being a practical kind of guy, I decided to take the plunge and invest in a pair 16kg kettlebells to test them out myself.
My first kettlebell workout was an experience to say the least, and let's just say it was "clunky".
I admit I lost track of time as I played with the kettlebells trying to master various exercises and techniques. Before I knew it, 2 hours had passed and I thought I'd better quit and have another go in a few days time.
I remember feeling a strange mix of fatigue and exhilaration once I had sat down, and little did I know how much I would ache the next day!
I had found exactly what I had been looking for, and furthermore, I was hooked.
I have been using kettlebells for 2 years now and am qualified as an Advanced Kettlebell Instructor.

A kettlebells sheer versatility means that they can be used to achieve almost ANY fitness goal you may have, whether that be to lose fat and get a super sexy and sleek body, or whether you want to simply boost general fitness. Heck, they can even be used VERY effectively for building muscle, getting stronger and developing explosive strength.
In my 2 years of using kettlebells, I have personally performed 100's of workouts using kettlebells and they form the cornerstone for training my own clients.
As kettlebells are still relatively unheard of amongst the general fitness community, I thought it would be a great idea to provide some examples of my favourite kettlebell workouts, listed by fitness goal under the links listed below.
